BIC FLASHBACK #15 - 'Stranger' (Holy Wars / Cruel World Mix) ft. KAT LEON

So here we are at our final ‘flashback’ of our current videos. We plan to have the 4th video from ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’ released by the end of this month…. but let’s take a look at the third video/single - ‘Stranger’ (Holy Wars / Cruel World) remix! The original version (or as my daughters say- OG version!) is one of my favorite BIC songs. This song was the most popular choice amongst remixers; with a total of SEVEN versions on our latest release. The 7 are extremely diverse ‘takes’ on this song and are some of the highlights of the album! As per our usual MO, we not only wanted the video as different as possible the prior video (‘Temple Of Desire’), but also the original ‘Stranger’ video.

Kat and I listened thru all of the remixes and decided on her Holy Wars guitarist Nick Perez’s ‘Cruel World’ Mix for this video. Nick injected sort of a Massive Attack meets NIN vibe to the track, future coloring Kat’s desperate lyrics. Now to figure out a video under some strict Covid lowdown rules! I had seen some of Kat’s solo and Holy Wars videos that where done with director/editor Fre Pacheco. I thought he had a unique style … lots of glitchy destructive effects and quick cuts - all which I thought would be perfect for this remix.

When Kat was shooting the Holy Wars ‘I HATE MYSELF’ video, we had shot couple of passes of her singing ‘Stranger’ … with a remix video in mind. When we were stroy-boarding the OG ‘Stranger’ video, we had intended to use the cool ‘body bag’ footage that Kat had (it was going to be used in a Holy Wars video, but deemed too dark) . As our original ‘Stranger’ video was being edited, it was clear that it did not fit in the direction … but is PERFECT for the ‘Cruel World’ mix! This footage, intertwined with Kat’s new shots, with a tad of the original …. all complied with Fre’s bombastic editing is the end result you see!

I do love this video and remix … and it certainly checks all of our ‘boxes’ !
