MONDAY Q&A 7/13/20

Q: Hi, I follow you on all of your social media and you seem to juggle a lot in your life with family and music. How do you do it and does anything suffer?

A: Are you stalking me? :) Seriously, I think it comes down to priories and how your prioritize your time, as we all get the same 24 hours a day while we are on God’s green earth. For me, my family has and always will be my priority. Truth be told, sometimes I do feel guilty when I am in the studio and my girls and watching a movie or swimming. Hard not to feel like I am missing out on time with them. I am blessed that my wife and daughters are extremely supportive of what I do musically. It is a joy to have them involved with BIC. Tish was on the first album with ‘Look Up’, and played bass on several other songs, and our daughters are on the cover of ‘FBIC’ and have been part of several of the videos. My ‘day job’ at Schecter Guitar is a blessing and sometimes a curse. It certainly has put me in a position to meet and become friends with some amazing artists … several that have become big parts of our BIC Family. It also has allowed me the flexibility to not have to miss monumental moments in our daughters’ lives. I got to go on all the field-trips, see all the games, plays and more. This I am so grateful for, as it is what truly matters. But it is also business and I am responsible for 50 something people and their families too. There have also been times that the guitar, which is something I love, became a widget to me… meaning it became an object to put food on the table for my family … if that makes sense? That said, doing BEAUTY IN CHAOS has certainly reignited the love and passion for the guitar and music that I had when I was young an naive ! Not sure if I am answering your question or not? Less sleep and coffee help! Thankfully my office and studio are less than two miles from our house, so I don’t lose hours in computing like many people in Los Angeles do. It does add up, and puts me home for dinner with the family, which I love. Setting up the small writing studio in a spare bedroom in our house also helps, as I don’t have to leave when an idea strikes. I can just walk down the hall, work a bit and come back out to watch a movie with the girls. I am a Blessed man for sure. MC X
