MONDAY Q&A 2/17/20

Q: Since your are a very accomplished guitarist and are also in the guitar business, besides your cited influences, are there any other contemporaries that have impressed you?

A: Accomplished! Well that’s very kind but not sure if a deserving accolade.. but thank you. My ‘job’ at Schecter certainly puts me in a position to hear a lot of great guitarists on our roster. Syn Gates, Keith Merrow and Nick Johnston come to mind … different but amazing players in their own right. Way out of my style and league. Honesty I was listening to Richard Butler’s LOVE SPIT LOVE albums this weekend and Richard Fortus is really an amazing player. I got to meet him thru Wayne Hussey as he is a big Mission fan. Not sure of his work now as he is now in Guns N’ Roses, but his playing and songwriting with Love Spit Love and also with the Psychedelic Furs is really inspiring. Great parts and textures. Richard also produced the new Furs record, which was also mixed by my mate Tim Palmer… so I am really looking forward to hearing! I have said often that Richard Butler is one of my all-time fav singers, so hopefully between Tim and Richard Fortus I can plea my case for Mr. Butler to do a song with BIC! I’m sure there are other players I’ve heard of late that I have enjoyed … but I do urge you to check out both Love Spit Love and Trysome Eatone. Great songs and guitar work … and depressing how few know of these albums.

you can really hear Mr. Hussey’s influence on the guitar playing in the above. Bravo!!
