MONDAY MC Q&A 6/21/21

well I’ve been sitting on some good questions, just taking a bit of a break …. but thought it was time to jump back and answer a few….

Q: I have noticed in your studio posts and ‘tuesday toys’ that you seem to be using quite a few different insruments. Curious as to the reason behind this?

A: Ahhh, you noticed! I think most guitarists and songwriter get to a level of ‘comfort’ .. with certain chord shapes and progressions, etc. I guess I made a concerted effort to circumvent that as much as possible, as I too certainly am guilty of that. I added a couple of odd-ball instruments to my ‘tool box’ as I set out to create what was going to be new BIC. The Eastwood ‘MandoCello’ and the Veillette Avante brought a nice new realm to my songwriting, along with going into storage and dusting off some old friends and setting them up in some dedicated alternate tunings. This allowed some interesting new chord voicings. It certainly helps to have Michael Rozon there to help decipher and make sense of some of the odd tracks I brought in. With multiple singers being at the heart of Beauty In Chaos, it is important to us to keep a common thread throughout, something to sonicially tie things together. I usually keep a dozen of so effect pedals, that I mix and match for the overdubs, to keep a familiar yet different tonality across whatever this turns out to be. My Schecter 12s and bass-VIs will also be heard weaving in and out of the new songs…. Hopefully when all is said and done with these new songs; we will have something new and fresh, yet 100% BIC!
