MONDAY Q&A 5/25/20
Q: I have heard parts of the new album and I think it sounds great! I wanted to know if it is on Spotify?
A: First, thank you for your nice words about our new album. I am probably dating myself a bit here but I am not a fan of Spotify, Apple Music or other streaming services. I guess I miss my teen years of going into a record store and purchasing the physical vinyl. The opening of it, putting it almost religiously on the turntable, scouring the liner notes …. Listening to music on streaming just seems to be easy, yet impersonal. Like most things today, easy and convenient seem to win out. Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox just a bit and answer your question! We are fortunate to have a label in 33.3 Music Collective that still loves and believes in the physical medium of music; the vinyl and compact disc. In fairness and support of our label, we chose to hold back releasing of our albums for 60 days after release. This allows them time to hopefully sell enough of the vinyl and CDs to warrant them to continue to offer future BIC releases in these manners. I really hope BIC albums are never ‘digital’ only. Some may think this is an antiquated mindset, and maybe in some ways it is. For as much work as it is, and I do my fair share of complaining during the design of the packaging … I do love it. I do get the ‘importance’ of being included on various playlists, and that some listeners might actually discover BIC on streaming services. Hopefully a few of those will actually have the desire to own a physical copy. Semi-reluctantly, ‘the storm before the calm’ will be available on most streaming platforms around July 22nd.
