MONDAY Q&A 10/19/20
Q: I was reading through the credits on the new Beauty In Chaos remix album and I noticed there were quite a few guitarists besides yourself featured on these remixes. I have always been a fan of your guitar playing since seeing you with Human Drama at Scream in the late ‘80s. I was wondering what was your thought process on bringing in additional guitar players?
A: Wow, Scream! That was a great time in music. I appreciate your kind words and for reading the credits! It’s a lot of work and I wasn’t sure if anyone did. As for other guitarists, I got the ‘proving to myself I could do it’ thing out of my system on ‘finding beauty in chaos’. Being that ‘Out Of Chaos Comes...’ is indeed a remix album, in which 99.9% total control was given, I love the different take each remixer had on the songs. Having the opportunity to have two of my favorite guitarists, Simon Hinkler (The Mission) and Richard Fortus (Love Spit Love, G’nR) on the album is another one of those ‘surreal’ BIC moments. For Cinthya Hussey’s version of ‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’, I wanted the guitar to be something I was hearing in my head, but totally outside of my wheelhouse. My friend, Nick Johnston is probably one, if not the best guitarist in the world that you probably haven’t heard of. His solo on this version is so fluid and emotional. Several of the other producers and artists that did remixes also added some very cool guitars, including Tim Palmer, John Fryer, MGT and Nick Perez. I think these additions make these ‘re-envision’ albums we do very viable and not just filler. It gives each remix its own unique flavor and gives the track’s creator more colours in their sonic palette. As with “Beauty Re-Envisioned”, this is a long, diverse listen and I do hope everyone will give each track a listen, as I feel there are gems among for everyone!
